Eating local food in Singapore & Malaysia for American born kids was an adventure. It turned out some of them liked some special dishes: Hainan Chicken Rice (海南雞飯), Kway Teow (粿條、貴刁, flat noodles often stir-fry with clams) cooked on Rawa island, and Nasi Lemak (椰漿飯、《辣死你媽》,Malay: rice fat). Also we had some veggie dishes in Singapore. There were plenty of durians, mangosteens and rambutans (榴蓮、山竹、紅毛丹). One thing missing is pulasan (葡萄桑、山荔枝, third from last picture) which look like rambutan but tastes better. The last picture shows the pricey tropical fruits sold at Truckee, California.
